Will you be my Valentine?
On this
auspicious day around the world, flowers, chocolates and gifts are exchanged in
the name of St. Valentines between the loved ones. But who is St. Valentine and
what is the history behind the Valentine’s Day? We are all busy building up new
relationships and ending them when we want. Relationship is a very strong word
and it’s not just mere a word, it’s the faith between two people. It’s a kind
of a feeling that the couple experience between them.
“Will you be
my Valentine?
This phrase
is often asked to those with whom we are either already in a relationship or
with whom we want to grow old with, but never tried to realize its value and
the real sense behind these powerful words.
So, here the
story goes like this:
It’s a story
of 300 AD, when Rome was known to be the most powerful region in the world. Claudius-2
was the king of Rome at that time and was known for his rude and cruel behavior.
He was a fast developing king who was busy extending the area of his rein all
around the world. King Claudius-2 was a calculative and a sharp person, so with
his analysis and research he found that a single Male youth is far more
powerful than the married male, this made him have a thought to make a new rule
for his kingdom.
So, finally
king Claudius-2 came up with a decision that no unmarried youth under his
leadership would be allowed to marry. This started a series of protest and
rallies against him.
St.
Valentine
There was a priest.
He was against his decision and hence started organizing marriages without the
consent of the king. Soon the Claudius 2 heard about him and St. Valentine was
arrested and was put behind the bars. The daughter of the jailer admired him
and visited him frequently in the jail. Soon they started to develop feeling
for each other and in no time they were in love.
Then Why 14th
Feb?
St.
Valentine, a genuine person and with his feeling for love, was tied to the
gibbet and burned to death on 14th Feb. Before he was executed, he
wrote a letter for her beloved and the love letter consisted of a blank page
with only 3 words written at the bottom-
“From Your
Valentine”
St.
Valentine left this world leaving a strong message of love.
This made
the public realize the true power of love and they started their protest
against the king. The pious love which was given by Valentine is remembered
even today and in his remembrance the loved one’s quote
