What is
Amazon Web services?
Well, before
we begin, let’s break the word and understand it’s individual meaning in layman
language. Amazon + Web Service: Amazon
is the world largest ONLINE RETAILER and a prominent cloud service provider.
The other word i.e. “cloud service provider”. To understand the meaning of
cloud service provider, let’s learn first about the cloud computing in simple
words. Cloud is used as a metaphor for the “internet”. So, now we can say that
it’s a type of internet based computing, where different services – including
servers, storage and application are delivered to an organization’s computer
and devices through the internet. We can also compare as, cloud is the mixture
of air, vapor and liquid water just like cloud computing is a mixture of
variety of facilities like servers, storage and application. And now comes the
word Web Services, in layman terms,
web services is a technology which enables the interaction between any two applications.
Let’s take
an example in order to get a clear picture.
Consider a
movie booking site. When user book for a movie and enter his/her detail, he/she
has to make the payment and for that the site requires user to select the mode
of payment. Let’s suppose he/she selects Credit card as the mode of payment,
now user has to enter all credit card detail. Obviously these details cannot be
authenticated by the movie booking site. It has to request to the concerned
bank to authenticate the details provided by the user. That’s where
WEB-SERVICES come into play. It makes the interaction between two applications
possible and it accomplish serving data in the standard format such as XML or
JSON. This will result the bank to response accordingly to the request made by
the movie booking site (in this case).
